There are as many reasons why one enters into therapy as there are inspirations to dedicate one’s life to being a therapist. The complex and dynamic nature of the human condition and the relationships we value and cultivate offer constant opportunity for growth and insight. Therapy is the conscious examination of those opportunities
The systems of dynamic relationships start with the individual. Building effective and healthy relations is rooted in the relationship to self. As a psychologist, I have worked with diverse populations and a broad spectrum of issues, and I have developed a deep respect for the unique stories and needs of my clients.
I provide treatment for children and teenagers three and older who present with a wide range of emotional and behavioral concerns. I create a space for them to think and feel emotions that are sometimes too intense to manage alone.
Adolescence is a challenging time for both teens and their parents. During this time of physical and emotional development, teens are often faced with difficult choices. Struggles with developing their identity and being bombarded with confusing and conflicting messages from their friends, family, society and the media can be overwhelming, and can result in a number of problems that impact the emotional well-being of the teen, as well as his or her relationship with the family unit. Therapy can assist teens in navigating this difficult time.
Child and adolescent individual therapy is tailored to the unique needs of the client. Some of my treatment specializations include:

The emphasis of therapy is on personal growth through recognition of strengths, insight into challenges, and developing effective skills needed for change. In addition to individual therapy with a child/teen, I may integrate parents and families into therapy to further reinforce skills taught in sessions and to plan how the child's therapeutic progress may be supported at home.
My therapeutic approach is warm, respectful, engaged, compassionate and focused. When working with children, I support their ability to talk about thoughts and feelings, but also employ "play therapy," which helps them communicate upsets, reenact troubles, relieve stress, dramatize strengths, create options and adopt adaptive coping strategies.
I believe that many of our problems are relational and are responses to events that happened in our past; events which may not have been processed appropriately. The wounds that we carry with us and self-limiting beliefs we develop can cause us to shut down our ability to trust ourselves and others, which in turn keeps us from being open to love and other possibilities.
As a therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. I aspire to help others explore the complexities of life and lead them to a greater self-awareness, trust, love, and acceptance. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve those challenges.
Understanding that the family system is complex and ever changing, I work from a family systems approach. I work collaboratively with families to develop a better understanding of how their family system functions, and to uncover the things that might be getting in the way of relationships and contributing to their “feeling stuck.” I will assist a family in identifying the unproductive communication patterns, as well as unhealthy behavioral patterns within their system. We then work to alter those patterns by learning more productive ways of communicating and solving problems.
One of my areas of expertise when working with families and couples is working through significant life events or transitions such as:
- Merging of two families through marriage
- Loss of a loved one
- Launching of a child from the home
- The birth of a new child
EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach approved for treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other emotional conditions. Sometimes past traumas can leave us feeling stuck or unable to talk about what happened. All the feelings, thoughts, sights, and sounds associated with a particular trauma are “trapped” in the nervous system and they are often reenacted in current events by making us feel overly anxious or depressed. When the brain is unable to process these negative emotions, the distress continues to live on in our nervous system and can cause disturbances in our functioning. EMDR therapy uses bilateral stimulation, which activates the left and right side of the brain and allows them to communicate better. This causes the reprocessing of the emotional material and desensitizes us to the traumatic nature of the event. Previously “trapped” memories, thoughts and emotions are “unlocked,” and traumas are integrated in a healthier way. This empowers us to live fully and once again be comfortable in our own skin.
EMDR can also aid the resolution of the following conditions:
